Bachelor’s degrees awarded by the Institute

The Institute awards a bachelor’s degree in media in one of the following majors:

  • Journalism
  • Radio and television
  • Public Relations and Advertising

Obtaining a bachelor’s degree requires studying (144) credit hours of the prescribed hours on eight semesters, including practical training hours, comprising general requirements, mandatory requirements for the Institute besides the requirements of the department; each course has three credit hours. Based on the suggestions of the scientific departments, the management of the institute determine the actual hours of each course, and the subjects that have an applied and practical aspect. Two hours of applied and practical aspect are counted as one credit hour.

 The duration of the study at the Institute is four years of study. Whoever successfully passes such four years shall be awarded a bachelor’s degree in one of the mentioned three majors. This qualification shall be approved by the Minister of Higher Education.

Study system

The study in the bachelor’s program is based on the credit hours system. The study comprises two semesters in addition to a summer semester. Each semester has a separate exam. The duration of study at the institute for a bachelor’s degree is four years of study distributed into eight semesters.

Study and enrolment dates:

 The academic year is divided into three semesters as follows:

  •  Semester 1: Starts in early September for (15) weeks.
  • Semester 2: Starts in early February for (15) weeks.
  • Summer Semester: Starts from the first Saturday of July for (8) weeks.

Presenting any course in the summer semester requires at least 10 students who wish to register the same course. In exceptional cases, the number of students can be decreased by the approval of the Institute’s Board of Directors.

Study requirements:

The exact specialization of the student is determined by studying a set of compulsory and optional courses. The student, to be awarded a bachelor’s degree in media, must successfully pass at least 144 credit hours prescribed herein distributed as follows:

  •  General subjects: 24 credit hours including:
  • 12 compulsory hours to study Arabic and foreign language at 6 hours each.
  • 12 optional hours for students in 10 courses.
  • Compulsory requirements for the Institute: 42 credit hours (14 courses).
  • Compulsory requirements for department: 48 credit hours (15 courses).
  • Optional requirements for department or major: 15 credit hours (5 courses).
  • Free courses: 6 credit hours.
  • Practical training inside or outside the institute: 6 credit hours.
  • Summer training: 3 credit hours.

Bachelor’s degree requirements:

 To obtain a bachelor’s degree, the student must meet the requirements of the Institute as follows:

 Student must pass 144 credit hours, including practical training hours and on the following conditions:

 1- Student must achieve a cumulative average of at least (2) at any time. If the cumulative average is less than 2, student will be warned and not authorized to register for the next semester for more than 12 credit hours. In case of repetition for four consecutive semesters, student will be permanently dismissed, unless he\she is at the third and fourth levels, student is given an additional opportunity or two respectively.

2- Student is allowed to re-enroll in any course in which he/she had failed and must restudy and reattend the exam for the same after paying the prescribed tuition fees. The student’s mark and grade will be reduced to the highest pass level, as the case may be.

  1. Student has the right to improve their cumulative average by re-enrolling in one or more courses in which they had already received (2025) or less, up to a maximum of 15 hours.
  2. As for the graduation project course, the duration of the study is divided into two consecutive extended semesters, excluding summer semester. Student may only be graduated after meeting the requirements for passing the project. 

5- After passing the second level, student must perform a practical training inside or outside the institute for 8 weeks, equivalent to 6 credit hours, provided that student submits a full report on the topics they have been trained on and discuss such report before a committee of faculty members.

6- Tuition is carried out by professors inside and outside the Institute and by media people in the major that has been trained.

  1. The duration of study for a bachelor’s degree is not less than four years of study.

Tuition fees:

 The fees for educational service per credit hour per year are determined according to the expenses approved by the Ministry of Higher Education.

The educational service for the summer semester is determined by the value of the credit hour specified by the total expenses approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and according to the hours in which student enrolls.

Enrollment requirements:

 1- Student must enroll in courses of (12-18) credit hours in a semester. As for the summer semester, the enrollment shall be up to two courses, after the enrollment requirements have been met in each course and after consulting the academic guide and on the specified dates in accordance with the rules issued by the Institute.

2- Student may not enroll in courses with previous requirements before meeting the requirements for passing in those previous requirements.

Calendar and exams

The student’s performance is evaluated at the end of the semester. The student is awarded the first honors class if he obtains an excellent cumulative grade. The student is also given the second honors if he obtains a very good cumulative grade, provided that his cumulative average is not less than 3 throughout the years of study at the institute.

In order for the student to enter the exam for any course, he must meet an attendance rate of not less than 75%.

The student is not allowed to sit for the examination in the courses in which he did not meet the attendance rate. In this case, the student is considered to have failed in the courses for which he was denied sitting for the examination. In it (with a weak grade), unless the student presents an excuse accepted by the Institute Council, then he is considered absent with an excuse.

– The student submits an excuse that is accepted by the Institute Council, and he is considered absent with an excuse.

The student registers in higher-level courses if he succeeds in the courses considered as a prerequisite, or if he fails or is absent in sub-courses with the approval of the academic advisor. Success in all compulsory and elective courses is required before obtaining a bachelor’s degree and achieving the required minimum number The credit hours and the cumulative total for graduation.

Fourth-level students prepare a bachelor’s project during the academic year. The department councils determine its topics. In addition, an additional period is allocated for it after the written exams for the eighth semester, determined by the institute’s council based on the department councils’ proposal, provided that it is not less than four weeks.

– The Institute’s Council, based on the proposal of the department councils, determines the summer training system for students, and this is implemented under the supervision of the faculty and within the limits of the available capabilities. The graduation certificate is only awarded to students who have successfully completed the practical training referred to in the study plan.
